Detailed booking information and cancellation policy

Safety deposit

To hold your spot, Kalawai Adventure requires an AUD 1,500 safety deposit. Kalawai Adventure will hold this money until the minimum number of travellers has been attained and the trip can officially go ahead. We will let you know on a regular basis what the trip’s status is and when the “green light” is on (i.e., the trip is confirmed).

Do you get your safety deposit back?

If you cancel your trip anytime after paying the safety deposit, Kalawai Adventure is under no obligation to reimburse you.

Full payment

Once the minimum number of participants has been attained, we will green light the trip. You will then be asked to pay the remaining amount, usually within 14 days. After full payment, you will have a 14-day “grace period” during which you can cancel your participation. Kalawai Adventure will, in that case, refund all your money minus the safety deposit.

What if you cancel your trip after the grace period?

If you cancel after the grace period, Kalawai Adventure is under no obligation to reimburse you.

To avoid stress and headaches, we recommend you purchase a comprehensive travel insurance that includes cover for cancellations. It is a small investment that will greatly reduce your loss in case you need to back out.

Replacements

We will try our best to fill your spot in case you cancel. If successful, we will reimburse all your money, including your safety deposit (minus any transfer/PayPal/conversion fees). We cannot make any promises but we usually manage to find replacement(s) and reimburse people in full. Keep in mind that the closer you cancel from the departure date, the more challenging it is for us to find (an)other customer(s).

Cancellations by Kalawai Adventure

If the minimum number of passengers has not been attained, Kalawai Adventure will refund you in full, except plane tickets that you may have purchased. Therefore, we recommend you wait for our "green light" before you invest in the trip.

Kalawai Adventure will under no circumstance reimburse international plane tickets that you may have purchased.

In the unlikely event of a “force majeure” (e.g., war, epidemic, natural disaster, etc.) which may jeopardise the safety of the trip, Kalawai Adventure may decide to cancel the trip and will not be liable for any reimbursements. Make sure your insurance policy includes “cruise cover” or a similar provision.

Trip cancellations by the ship’s operator

In the unlikely event the ship operator cancels the trip, they may offer a do-over trip. In this case, you may be required to pay an additional fee to cover lost domestic flights and hotel bookings.
